4.10.2010 Update

It was just two of us today in Hartford:  myself and another Dave from church.  It turned out to be a beautiful day to be spreading the gospel through tracts and preaching.

We had the opportunity to speak briefly with a few folks, and met several Christians today on the streets.  It occurred to me that one of the things we may accomplish out there is to encourage and provoke other brethren to good works.  (Hebrews 10:23-24)

We had one session of preaching in front of the cemetery by Center Church on Main Street.  Dave B. preached after myself.  While he was preaching I noticed that a car across the street had stopped (stopping the rest of traffic with him), and was listening to him preach.  In a moment, the car began to drive again, but I shortly heard the squeal of rubber on the pavement and saw him pull a u-turn in the middle of Main Street and head to where we were!  I approached the curb to intercept them should they cause a disturbance, and they pulled over in front of us and rolled down the window.  I leaned over and saw two black guys in the car and offered them tracts, which they took.  The driver immediately asked me what Dave was talking about.  He had heard part of what Dave said about how God gave his own Son for wicked sinners and would you or I give up our son for someone who was our enemy.  The driver asked, "What was he talking about his son dying?  Did something happen..."  It was a perfect opportunity to explain the illustration Dave was using, and give a gospel witness to the two men in the car.  I ended up spending 10 minutes or so talking to them through their window about Christ, the Bible and the gospel.  It's never normal on the streets!

That pumped me up, and we both had another go of preaching in the same spot, after which we packed up and headed for home.

Sorry, no pictures this week, although I wish I had a video of those guys pulling a u-ey right in the middle of Main Street traffic to find out what those crazy guys were yelling about!
